Hardy Lake Provincial Park Hiking Trails
Hwy 169 Walkers Point, Ontario
Hardy Lake Provincial Park provides hiking access to the shores of both Hardy Lake and Lake Muskoka, two of the most picturesque and rugged shorelines, characteristic of the lake-studded Precambrian rock landscapes of Muskoka. The trails are maintained by the Muskoka Lakes Trails Association.

Torrance Barrens Trails - Conservation and Dark Sky Reserve

Encompassing 1990 hectares, the Torrance Barrens Conservation Reserve is one of the most striking geological areas in Muskoka. The prevalence of bar bedrock is a direct result of wave-washing by the receding water level of glacial lakes Algonquin and Nipissing. The nationally rare eastern bluebird and Cooper's hawk can be spotted from the Barrens, along with diverse vegetative species. The eastern Massasauga rattlesnake, a threatened species, can also be found here, as can Ontario's only lizard, the five-lined skink. Star gazers have identified the Barrens as an ideal place to view the night skies, a Dark Sky Preserve, owing to the absence of light infiltration from urban centers. The main trail circles Highland Pond which is a realtively large shallow pond surrounded by floating fen mats that provide habitat for several species of orchids including the white-fringed orchidm rose pogonia and calopogon. An extensive intermediate fen extends off the western end of the pond. This sedge-dominated wetland provides a field habitat for vesper sparrow and bob-o-link.- The Cranberry Trails
